Fix Outlook Error – “Messaging interface has caused an unknown error”

Emails are an important part of our day to day communication whether it is related to business or personal issues. There are lots of email applications and Microsoft Outlook is one of the great and mostly used emailing application with advanced features that facilitates major tasks within less time. However, working with Outlook is not that easy and sometimes it becomes very cumbersome to recover outlook.

Various errors starts coming and you have to first find the reason of the problem, in order to fix it. Let’s consider an example of the following error message that might occur while your are working and can cause Outlook to stop working.

Error Message:

Messaging interface has caused an unknown error
or
An unknown error has occurred. 0x80040600
or
An unknown error has occurred. 0x80040119

This error might occur while clicking on send/ receive or while reading emails in Outlook. To get rid of this problem and for effective Outlook recovery initially you can scan the .pst file with Inbox repair utility (Scanpst.exe), an inbuilt utility in Outlook. By default the location of this utility is C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\MSMAPI\1033 but location could be different depending upon your operating system.


Solution:

Note: We are considering here the following configuration: Outlook 2007 with Windows 7.
Close Outlook before doing any operation on Outlook.

Find the PST file:


Click Start → in Start search box, type control panel and press enter. In case Control Panel Home view is visible then click User Accounts and Family Safety and if Control Panel Home view is not visible then in top right corner, in Search Control Panel, type mail and Enter. Now, click MailData FilesPersonal FoldersSettings and not down the Filename box text.(To see the entire text in filename box click on filename box and use right arrow). Click OK and click close twice.

Find and Run Scanpst.exe file :

Click Start and in the Start Search box enter %ProgramFiles%\Microsoft Office\Office12\ then press Enter. Double click on the scanpst.exe and enter the name of and path of .pst file in Enter the name of the file you want to scan box that you have noted earlier. Click Start. When the process is completed click OK and check whether you are able to perform operation in Outlook like send, receive, delete etc.

Alternative Solution:

If you still face problem then you can try another method, which includes creating a new .pst file and then set it as default .pst file. Import the data from old PST file to new PST file.

Third-Party Solution:

Apart from these methods, the error can be easily fixed with a third party Outlook Recovery utility which are available with prominent features to identify the real cause of the error and to uses the advanced mechanism to fix the problem with ease. With the help of a recovery software for outlook user gets a corruption and error free working environment without much hassles.
